Not happy about the result of the Great @Debian Default Init Debate?

Instead of complaining on the internet, why don't you write a patch for the installer to add a choice of init system, like you can choose the desktop environment?

This would help people *use* the other init systems, report bugs, and they would have less chances to drop into unmaintained hell.

Ora, io propongo l'infallibile metodo

Jitsi: Jitsi Videobridge | Jitsi
Jitsi Videobridge is a WebRTC compatible Selective Forwarding Unit (SFU) that allows for multiuser video communication. Unlike expensive dedicated hardware videobridges, Jitsi Videobridge does not mix the video channels into a composite video stream. It only relays the received video flows to all call participants. Therefore, while it does need to run on a server with good network bandwidth, CPU horsepower is not critical for performance.

A graph of repo activity shows that there's activity and that activity is more or less constant in time, so it's no so dead :-)

That's what I think: Thunderbird main work is to receive, index and store email. Every other fancy feature you want you can get via extensions (calendar, gmail-like conversation threads, mail tags, etc). So I don't think is so bad if we consider Thunderbird as the core of the application that has reached his goal and so the development can slow down.

Anyway, in the talk was mentioned two main changes they are woking on:
- mime.js, a pure js library to parse email, to replace the messy C code
- a new contact module (to replace the current messy C code..), more modular, with plugins for "local contacts", "carddav", "google contacts", etc...
Fabio 7 months ago
Let me be not so optimistic! :)
TB does work in receiving and sending email, but for sure it's far from perfection. Even if it was perfect, communication is evolving and having a slow development means to be dead in a short period of time. :)

Once you sprite your images, the next step is to compress them as much as possible. PNG is a great format for this, but... Yes, it does! No, it doesn't! Which PNG? PNG supports various combinations of color depth, transparency and color correction.

I was trying to send a photo to my pc using bluetooth, with no luck.

I found that bluez package include "obexd", the daemon that manage file transfers via bt, but nothing, neither in gnome3, implements the "show to the user a message asking if to accept the incoming file and where to put it" part.
I thing it was a job for gnome-bluetooth-applet, wich I can't find anymore.

So, this is my quick fix:
- kill the obexd daemon
- restart it as
$ /usr/lib/bluetooth/obexd -a -r Documenti/Bluetooth

where:
-a, --auto-accept Automatically accept push requests
-r, --root=PATH Specify root folder location. Both absolute and relative can be used, but relative paths are assumed to be relative to user $HOME folder. Default $XDG_CACHE_HOME

this way my files are accepted and saved in "/home/fabio/Documenti/Bluetooth" folder
($XDG_CACHE_HOME is not set in my pc...)

The longest fix is to create a program tha... show more

CSS Tricks

Just found two neat css tricks:
- Force image resize and keep aspect ratio [1]
- Absolute horizontal and vertical centering [2]

Force image resize and keep aspect ratio

Sometime we want to scale images to fit them into avaiable space, e.g. a photo in friendica's stream. We can easly set a maximum width and the image will scale correctly:
.image { max-width: 100px; }
If image width is > 100px, the browser will scale the width to 100px and the height to whatever is in relation to image ratio.
So, if the image is 400x200, the browser will scale it to 100x50.

But.

What if the image is 400x1200?
The browser will do his job and will show it ad 100x600. that could be quite tall..

The first thing we try is to add max-height:.image { max-width: 100px; max-height:100px... show more

Netiquette Guidelines

This document provides a minimum set of guidelines for Network
Etiquette (Netiquette) which organizations may take and adapt for
their own use. As such, it is deliberately written in a bulleted
format to make adaptation easier and to make any particular item easy
(or easier) to find. It also functions as a minimum set of
guidelines for individuals, both users and administrators.
